I was happy that those other very negative reviews were wrong. Casa del Caribe is perfectly adequate considering the price. And the location--in Condado--was great! Yes, I had to jiggle the light switch to make the lights come on, and yes, the water in the shower was hard to adjust. But considering what I paid, I was happy to be a little rustic for a couple of days.
The coffee at breakfast wasn't to my taste, but there is a Starbuck's across the street. Although I called from the airport, as instructed, I stood on the sidewalk for 20-25 minutes while waiting for someone to let me in. (There is nobody at the desk after five or six p.m.) I hope they will kick in a few extra dollars to get a router that will get the wireless signal throughout the property--not just in the commons area.
The people there were outstanding hosts and very helpful in letting us know where to go for our entertainment on the island. If you have people who want to be located in the entertainment district of the island at a low cost, this will be the hotel to go to.
The place was essentially clean, but had a moldy smell in the rooms and I found a roach in the closet. Due to the humid coditions in the rooms we had a difficult time taking showers without continuing to sweat, but overall the people who run the hotel were very nice.
I liked the the fact that the room was dark at night and very quiet.
The bedroom toilet didn't flush very well.
close to beach
room too shabby. someone opened my door with a key at 4am.
Liked:-proximity to dining opportunities, to the beach and public transportation. The Casa could/should capitalize on its proximity to Ashford Avenue which is the main street in the Condado area.
Opportunities for improvement:-an effort to improve the offerings at the :"Continental Breakfast" would have been welcome. My wife & I chose to go out for breakfast most mornings. We are not - cornflakes in a box - type people.
Only good thing of hotel is the location its a block away from the beach casinos and other tourist areas.
No staff after a certain hour. No one was there to check me in. The prices were too high. More variety for breakfast would of been nice. Hotel needs a makeover and needs to be updated.
The location was Great... It was so close to the beach, it was very quiet and the room was tidied and beds made daily.
* The first night we didn't have any power. We then asked for a discount rate for that night or for a night we wanted to add on to our booking. They declined. We paid 25 dollars in candles/torches and they would not help out. The lady at the front desk was hopeless and would not give any information about the city. We even got charged an energy consumption rate daily and we didnt even have power the first night!!!
The WiFi was free. The price was reasonable. They let us leave our luggage there until check in time. Gave us Info on the bus schedule to Old San Juan. Felt secure with the locked gate. Nice chocolate confection on check out.
Coffee was not good. If we hadn't arrived before 5 Pm we would have had to make an international call to get someone to check in.
The location was good, both for the city of San Juan and the beach. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the facilities were nothing fancy, but comfortable enough.
Parking is tricky, being limited to the gated drive next to the guesthouse. It's safe enough, and decently priced at $5 a day, but you run the risk of getting blocked in by a fellow guest (or unwittingly blocking someone in yourself!)
The value is excellent and the service staff very nice. The lush outdoor area is nice to sit in for morning and evening times.
It is nothing fancy and feels a little dingy. The juice at the free continental breakfast was sour.
Great location 5 minutes to beach, nice staff. Breakfast was OK, toast, orange juice, pastry. Rooms recently updated, small courtyard, hot showers, plenty of space in the rooms. The only problem I can think of was that the windows were painted shut.
peace and quiet!! very good!!
the parking is realy bad bad !!!
Location is superb, right in the center of upscale Condado and 1 block from the beach.
Hotel is bare bones type, lacking most amenities. Staff is very limited (usually one person) who does everything. Rooms are pretty clean under these circumstances. In the middle of my stay, the roof was renovated. Job was very noisy and sprayed black filth all over the grounds, cleaned up only when the job was over. Room telephones did not function and no one came to repair them.
Located 1 and a half blocks from the beach. Beach towels available. Onsite parking. It is in the heart of the Condado section of San Juan where restaurants and nightlife and stores are plentiful. Staff was helpful.
Bathtub was a bit worn and could be resurfaced but was adequate. Continental breakfast selections were slim, but cereal, coffee, and juice was sufficient for me. Staff was not aware that lounge chairs were available for rent on the beach at $3 per day. When I checked in and paid for my stay I would have liked to receive an itemized receipt that showed all charges such as taxes and parking. I requested an itemized receipt when I checked out and it was provided.
The location was excellent. Walk to restuarant area, lots of choices. Walk to parks, beaches, bus ride to the old town where free trolley rides are available. Tours can be booked to rain forest and other tourist locations. Breakfast is self serve outside, under cover.
It is old, but has character. Unfortunately next door is derelict and gives a wrong impression.
